DANCE, THEATRE AND FILM

During my years in the dance, theatre and media industries, I've had the pleasure to work with some amazing companies, choreographers, makers and performers. Here are some of the things I've been getting up to:

Showreel

 'A Light in the Backwoods'

‘A Light in the Backwoods’ is an intimate dance theatre solo that explores isolation and belonging. The piece invites us into the life of a hermit named David Moore who is living alone in the woods. Using the body, live music, sound and voice we are lead through an array of landscapes, visions and dreams; eventually, David must question the cost of his chosen life. Choreographed, composed and performed by Charlie Hendren.

'Odyssey' - Dauntless Evolution

Dauntless Evolution are a physical theatre company that uses fluid movement, dynamic imagery and a total theatre approach to bring a sense of spectacle to the stories they choose to tell.

'Odyessy' - When unnerving visions of his past threaten to consume Alex he must go on a journey of self discovery to find hope lost long ago. In this vivid new production containing stories of ancient myths passed down through human history, searing visions of the future and a battle for survival Dauntless Evolution use a whirlwind of movement, song and bold visuals to ask the question when the future is so uncertain what can we truly rely on?
-

As well as being a part of building the physical world of 'Odyssey', I had the opportunity to compose/co-compose a lot of the live, on stage music for the show, drawing heavily on my passion for world foilk and polyphonic chorus.

‘ODYSSEY’ was especially developed for Creative Explorers in partnership with GRIT Collective, supported by Nuneaton & Bedworth borough council, and Arts Council England.

'The Tower' - Brighton Fringe

‘The Tower’ by Wild Elk Productions was one of my favourite productions to work on in 2024; I movement directed the amazing triple female cast in Emma Kelly’s stunningly written and award nominated play:

‘The Tower explores how extreme weather will affect us. It plays with themes of love, legacy, and family, imagining how we might tell stories if the power goes. It’s a dark tale infused with humour, music and poetry that will pull you in and set you to sail on an ocean in a possible future of our own making.’

-

'‘Charlie was instantly welcoming when he entered the rehearsal room. He put everyone at ease, especially those who felt less confident in movement. He brought out the best in the ensemble and added a lot of creativity to the process. He considered how movement could celebrate and portray them with insight and sensitivity. His energy and presence in the room made collaboration enjoyable and thought-provoking.’

Peut-Être Theatre

I’ve been collaborating with Peut-Être Theatre for over a decade, and every project has been a joyful, enriching experience. The company has a play-based approach to making shows, working with diversely skilled artists and researchers across sectors. With Peut-Être Theatre I have toured to prestigious national venues including the Royal Albert Hall, South Bank Centre, Roundhouse, The Place, The Egg, and Brighton Dome)

Most recently, I performed in 'The Dark', an adaptation of the Lemony Snicket picture book, which toured to theatres and children's hospitals across the UK. This autumn I will return to the rehearsal room for 'Sleep Show', which will tour nationally in 2025 and 2026.

Alongside our live work, we created 'Audiomoves' - an interactive movement podcast for little ones and big ones to move to! The short accessible episodes are designed to encourage children to move, dance, and get creative with a screen-free activity. I narrate the podcast and have also contributed as a writer, script advisor, and core member of the creative team.

For our most recent series, I’ve led creative workshops with children in schools and hospitals to develop and record content for new episodes. We’ve partnered with brilliant organisations such as London Zoo and the Royal Observatory Greenwich.

Audiomoves at the Zoo, our series created in collaboration with London Zoo, won silver at the 2023 British Podcast Awards (kids category), was shortlisted for The Stage’s Digital Project of the year, and was featured at No 5 in The Guardian's 20 Best Podcasts for Kids and Teens.
